- Executive Committee

The Ritual provides the basis for Chapter brotherhood, but it gives only basic guidelines for the operation of the Chapter. A strong Executive Committee and Chapter Bylaws provide the basic structure for the day-to-day operations of the Chapter. Consequently, the Executive Committee is a critical aspect to the operation of the Chapter. Almost everything the Chapter accomplishes starts in the Executive Committee or through the actions of a member of the Executive Committee. As a result, the productivity of the members of the Executive Committee directly affects the Chapter’s ability to grow and improve.
Over the past year, one of the most productive Executive Officers has been our Chapter Quaestor. This year, for the first time in several years, the Chapter will end the year under budget mainly due to conservative spending and low accounts receivable. Out of a 75 man Chapter, we have been able to keep our accounts receivable at a manageable amount, and we expect to collect all of that by the end of the year. The low level of A/Rs is due to new policy created by our Quaestor where a Brother cannot select a room to live in unless he has already fully paid his quarter’s house bill.
A focus of our Chapter has been to develop our Scholarship-in-Action program. This year the scope of the program grew significantly under the direction of our Scholarship Chairman and Annotator. These officers organized a resume workshop, interviewing skills workshop, and an alumni career fair. In addition, the Annotator scheduled several informal presentations by parent’s of Brothers in the Chapter discussing life skills such as financial management.
Another major area of growth has been in the efficiency of the Executive Committee Meetings. Over the past year, our Pro Consul has improved the operations of these meetings. The Pro Consul implemented a policy where any proposals made at an Executive Committee Meeting must wait until the next meeting to be voted upon. This week period gives the entire Chapter the ability to review the proposal and suggest changes. By allowing time for the Chapter to provide input increases the effectiveness of the Executive Committee.
